The Brookford Street Lofts
Originally a storage warehouse in three connected buildings, the Brookford Street Lofts were transformed into five unique living spaces with different layouts, sizes and orientations. The conversion of this structure removed the last traces of commercial use on this quiet residential street.  Part of the original building was deconstructed to provide open space and daylight for two of the units where the warehouse originally went right to the property line. A utility garage was removed and a new multi-level unit was built in the style of the new lofts. Large banks of windows cut into the masonry exterior take advantage of the former warehouse’s high ceilings to flood the interiors with light. Multiple levels in the original building made the design process challenging to achieve, but also made it possible to create a bi-level unit with private spaces several steps up from the more public living areas. Another unit was created within the original second floor office area and wraps around a large secluded roof deck which the owners have made into a landscaped outdoor garden. Each home is different from the others but they all share the same qualities of generous light and space and a very urban and modern tone.

The pictures on the left show the original warehouses.
